Hey everyone! So, my neighbor had some issues with their septic tank today, and the pump guys were there for a couple of hours, pumping it several times. The smell was strong enough that it seeped through my closed windows and doors, and they're only about 30 feet away. I'm just wondering, are those fumes from the septic tank dangerous for me?

You're not in immediate danger, but it’s gross for sure! It's just the smell of the septic tank being opened—no actual fumes that can harm you. If it happens frequently, maybe chat with your neighbor about getting it sorted out more regularly.
Honestly, when a septic tank is pumped, it's going to smell pretty awful. That’s just how it goes. But don’t stress too much—unless you're directly exposed to really high concentrations of waste gases, it shouldn't be harmful to you. The smell definitely indicates a problem, but it’s mostly just unpleasant air! Just keep those windows shut for a bit!

Yeah, I’d keep the windows closed until it clears up. But it’s good to know it's not dangerous!
