I bought a 7-gallon red dogwood from Home Depot three weeks ago, and it's still in its grower's pot because it's been so cold here—even had some snow recently, and I'm in zone 7a! During the day, I take it outside, but at night it goes into my garage. I've been watering it regularly, but I'm unsure if it's still alive since it was shipped in dormancy. What are some signs that can help me tell if the tree is still dormant or actually dead?

Don't worry too much! These trees are pretty tough. I got some trees delivered once, and even after being nibbled by deer, my dogwood eventually sprouted leaves. Just keep caring for it like you are now, and if there's any life left, you'll see it come back!

That's true! But if it doesn't show any signs of life soon, I wouldn't want to end up planting a dead tree when I could just return it to Home Depot.
