Is My Shower Liner Installed Wrong or Is It a Plumbing Issue?

Hey everyone! I bought my house a year ago, and I've just discovered that the shower on the second floor is leaking through a light fixture on the main floor. It seems like the shower liner membrane might have been installed incorrectly. I noticed that the tiles I've removed were a bit loose, while the ones still in place are pretty solid. I'm guessing I might need to tear everything out and start fresh. What do you all think?

Looks like you have a Schluter system there, which is generally a solid choice for waterproofing as long as it's installed right. Before you go ripping everything out, I'd suggest checking the plumbing underneath first. Sometimes leaks can happen from there, and if the membrane is properly installed, it should keep water in the shower despite a few loose tiles. It might save you some serious trouble!

Thanks for the insight! I checked underneath and found that the leak is actually coming from the edge of the flange. Water doesn't leak when it drains normally, but it does when it runs off the edge. I guess it’s dipping underneath the membrane a bit. I thought the membrane should reach right to the drain lip, but maybe not? The slope seems fine though.
