Is My Sod Installation Quote Way Too High?

I'm considering installing sod in my yard, which is about 550 sq ft in Los Angeles. I received a quote of $8,000 for Marathon grass, but another quote for Saint Augustine sod was only $1,200 to $1,500. I'm wondering if this $8k estimate is completely out of line, especially since the yard is flat, we've had grass before, and I'm not looking to install a sprinkler system or anything fancy. What do you all think?

Honestly, I think they might not want to do the job, so they inflated the price. It’s a good idea to get multiple quotes to find a better deal. You deserve an honest price for the work needed!

That 8k quote is definitely on the high side! Given your flat yard and no irrigation work, that price does seem excessive. I'd expect it to cost much less, especially since you’ve done sod before. It's worth getting a few more quotes to compare and see if someone might give you a more reasonable offer.

In my area, I could get all the sod for less than $500, and with just a couple of guys, we’d be done in a day for under $2,400. This would cover removing the old grass, hauling debris, and laying fresh topsoil, fertilizer, and lime. That LA price is wild!
