I recently moved into a new construction home that came with primed walls but no paint yet. I painted my garage with a matte white finish, and it looks great! Now I'm wondering if I really need to do two coats for the rest of the house since one coat seems to look fine. I'm using Sherwin Williams Emerald and I've seen mixed opinions online about how many coats are necessary. Is it worth it to spend the extra time for a second coat?

Generally, it's better to go for two coats because it gives you a more finished look. But if you use high-quality paint, sometimes one coat can do the trick! It really depends on your personal preference and how the walls end up looking after the first coat.
One coat is often okay, especially with primer already in place. Just remember that a second coat can help with overall coverage and durability. Plus, it usually goes on pretty quickly if you have a good setup. Investing in a cordless power roller can speed up the process for large areas!
If the first coat looks good to you, then go ahead and stick with it! Yes, two coats are always safer and can help with durability, but if you're not seeing any issues, you can always wait and reapply later if needed. Just keep an eye on wear in high-traffic areas.
