Is One Coat of 50/50 Oil-Based Poly Enough for the Underside of a Plywood Workbench?

I'm curious if applying just one coat of a 50/50 mix of oil-based polyurethane and mineral spirits is sufficient to seal the underside of my plywood workbench. I'd really appreciate any advice or insights from anyone who has experience with this. Thanks!

I definitely recommend doing more than one coat if you're worried about spills. Double-checking moisture levels is key, and a thicker protective layer helps prevent damage. As for your question about one coat being enough, it really depends on how much you plan to use it and what tasks you're doing. One coat might hold up, but if you spill anything, it could be tricky to clean!

Sealing your workbench is definitely a good idea, especially if you're working with glue. A lot of folks use poly for easy cleanup, so you're on the right track! But keep in mind that sealing just one side might cause the wood to warp due to humidity differences. It's generally best to seal both sides to avoid that. If you're worried about sticking glue, a thin coat can help, but two coats would give you better protection overall, just saying!

That’s a good point! I had a bench that warped because I only sealed one side. I’d go for at least two coats.
