Is one stud enough to mount my 55-inch TV?

I'm planning to mount my 55-inch TV, which weighs around 32 pounds, on the wall using a full-motion wall mount I've bought. The specifications say the mount can handle more than my TV's weight, but I'm wondering if relying on just one stud is safe, especially when the TV is extended. Am I being overly cautious about this?

Yes, it should work fine! Most TV mounts are designed for one stud and include the necessary screws. With 2-3 screws securing it, you should be good to go!

Totally agree! Most TV setups don’t weigh as much anymore, plus screws can usually handle around 50 lbs each, so you’re in a safe range.

The weight limit of your mount assumes it's mounted correctly. It's possible that the mount could be fine with just one stud, but it's generally safer to use two. A simple solution would be to attach a piece of plywood or a 2x4 across two studs and then mount your TV mount onto that for extra support.
