Is Painting Bathroom Tile a Good Idea?

I'm looking to surprise my husband by sprucing up our bathroom while he's away, but it's a total eyesore right now—think yellow, gross, and moldy! The former tenants tried to cover it up with regular paint, and it just looks awful. I bought a tile painting kit from Lowe's, but I'm a bit hesitant after seeing all the warnings. Does anyone have tips or advice on whether I should go for it?

Honestly, I'd suggest against painting the tile. It can end up looking really tacky, and the paint won't stick well at all, so it'll start to flake off pretty quickly. There are better options out there for a lasting solution!

Before you even think about painting, make sure you scrub that bathroom from top to bottom. If there’s any mold, you've got to get rid of that first! The bathroom should be super clean—like, eat-off-the-floor clean—before any painting happens.

I say skip the paint and try something like foils instead! I've never seen painted tiles look great, and you'd probably have a hard time cleaning them later. Plus, foils can be hosed down, which is a major win for maintenance!
