I'm currently upgrading the fence on one side of my yard and I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out. However, I have a standard chain link fence on the other side that's around 3 to 4 feet tall. I've got galvanized posts set in concrete, and I don't want to replace that side just yet since it backs onto a neighbor's privacy fence. Here's my plan: I want to buy new 1 5/8 posts to insert into the existing 2 3/8 posts and also use 2 3/8 posts over the top of my current 1 5/8 posts. I'd then fill those nested posts with concrete and cut them all down to about 5 feet high, just like the back fence. After that, I'd add stringers to create a privacy fence with the current posts supporting it. Does this sound like a solid plan or am I losing my mind?

How many posts are you planning to do? If the number is high, consider renting a gas-powered post pounder to make the job easier! It could save you a lot of time and effort.
