Hey everyone! I've got a front patio that's really falling apart and I'm considering swapping it out for a low deck. Here's a link to a photo of the patio: https://imgur.com/a/rFQ0sP3. Just to give you an idea, erosion's made the sand base a mess, causing the pavers to sink. The current setup is made of retaining wall blocks and pavers. Taking it out seems manageable unless we discover something unexpected under the sand. I'm looking to keep the new deck low and plan to use prefab blocks to make things easier. I realize critters might make a home underneath, but are there other factors I should consider? Also, I'm in Denver, CO, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for your input!

Just a heads-up: stone patios generally last longer than wood ones. If you're aiming for that wood feel, check out wood interlocking tiles that can be laid on a stone base. It could give you the best of both worlds! Using treated lumber with a vapor barrier should work fine for your deck. But honestly, I think the patio has its charm—what's your main issue with it?
Fair point! The main issue is that it’s really out of level, so we'd have to do some work to fix that before going for wood tiles, but we’ll definitely consider it!
