I'm trying to figure out if it's safe to use rock wool insulation against the fireplace wall on the second floor of my house. Should I stick with rock wool, or would foam board be a better option? Thanks for any insights!

Yeah, rock wool is about as safe as you can get for this kind of application. I even saw a demo where they put a torch right on it and it held up perfectly. Just remember to double-check the product packaging for any specific instructions!
You can definitely use rock wool here. It's fire resistant because it’s literally made from rock, so it won’t melt like foam might. It's one of the safest options you can go for!
Foam board? That wouldn't be safe! Rock wool is actually a solid choice. Just make sure to check out some guidelines on insulation for different fireplace setups to be sure you're covering all your bases.
