Is Roll Out Vinyl Flooring a Good Temporary Solution?

I'm currently facing a dilemma with my home's flooring. I have carpet in my living and dining areas, but I've already laid roll out vinyl in my entryway, hallway, kitchen, and downstairs bathroom. Right now, I'm not in a position to invest in luxury vinyl planks (LVP), which I plan to save for in the next few years. With my second child on the way, I really want to avoid carpets. My current carpet is stained from my toddler and a new puppy. Plus, potty training on carpet seems like a nightmare!

The vinyl I have now is thin and already showing wear and tear. I'm considering replacing it with thicker roll out vinyl that has a wood print, hoping it looks nicer and lasts longer.

Here's my question: Should I tolerate my current situation for another three years, or is it worth investing in better roll out vinyl now? If I do replace it, what brands are durable enough to last for a few years?

I actually laid down vinyl and over 15 years later, it still looks great! We have a lot of sand getting tracked in, but it held up really well. I've had pets too, and no stains or lingering smells! Honestly, I wouldn't ever want carpet again. Make sure to get a thicker vinyl for longevity; it's worth it.

You might want to consider the labor costs too. If you're doing the work yourself, time is still valuable, so why not invest in quality right off the bat? Good materials last longer and can save you hassle in the end.

When I was looking for flooring options, I found that vinyl can be pretty cheap, but replacing two rooms might not be as expensive as you think, especially if you handle the installation yourself. Have you compared prices between what you want and your current options?

I swapped out my old wood patterned vinyl for a thicker, grey option after 13 years, and it feels amazing! Not to mention, it was much less messy than tiles. Definitely worth considering a good quality roll out. Cleaning is a breeze!

I absolutely loved my sheet vinyl! It was one of my best home purchases. Transformative and easy to clean. I’d definitely go with another vinyl flooring when it's time for a change!
