Is Sherwin Williams Emerald Paint Worth the Extra Cost?

I'm looking for some advice on choosing a paint brand for my home. I know that Sherwin Williams generally offers better quality paint compared to their HGTV line available at Lowe's. Right now, Lowe's has a buy one, get one free deal on SW's HGTV Infinity line. My plan is to buy two 5-gallon containers of SW Alabaster, which translates to about $29.70 per gallon after the deal.

On the other hand, if I go with the standard Sherwin Williams Emerald line during their upcoming 40% off sale, it would cost me around $57 per gallon. So, my question is, is paying nearly double for Emerald really worth it?

I intend to paint my whole house using a sprayer, possibly the Magnum Project Painter Plus or X5, although I'm still considering rollers and brushes. I've updated my post to clarify that I'm not painting the ceilings. My focus is on the staircase walls, 6 bedroom walls, and two hallways, amounting to approximately 2000 sq ft of living space. I'll need around 20 gallons of paint since the current walls are a one-year-old builder-grade flat white by Sherwin Williams. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've used SW Emerald before and it’s impressive! Even if you’re not a pro, it really hides imperfections well and gives a nice finish. Definitely take advantage of that 40% off—it’s a great deal. You'll be thankful for the quality after putting in all the effort painting your place!

Honestly, while the Emerald line is great, I think it might not justify the extra cost for walls and ceilings. Both paints will need two coats, and if you pick the right finish, the durability isn’t hugely different. Just keep an eye on how much paint you really need; 10 gallons goes quickly when spraying a lot of wall space!

Thanks for the insight! I’ll definitely keep the coat requirement in mind.
