Is Shredded Paper a Good Option for Filling Pots?

I'm curious about using shredded paper from my shredder as a filler for large pots. I've previously filled them with chunks of rotting wood, but that didn't really work out in the long run. What do you think?

I wouldn't recommend using shredded paper. It breaks down way faster than wood does, which could leave you with nothing in a short time. Plus, if you're planting edible stuff, you might want to be cautious about the toxins from the ink or paper itself.

A great alternative to consider is using plastic balls in a mesh sack. It's lightweight, super affordable, and provides great drainage!

I actually use wine corks for this purpose. They last much longer and work quite well for keeping the volume without adding too much weight.
