I'm planning to plant a dwarf apple tree (M26) this winter. Since I only have room for one, I want to choose a self-fertile variety. Sunset seems promising due to its good disease resistance and late flowering, which works well since my garden doesn't get much early sun. Has anyone grown Sunset before? Is it really tasty? Also, I'm open to suggestions for other dessert apple varieties! Thanks in advance!

Are there any other apple trees nearby?
You probably won't have to stress much about pollination unless you're in a really rural area. Most neighborhoods have enough apple trees around that they can cross-pollinate. Have you thought about planting a heritage variety? They can be great for your local climate and you won't find them in supermarkets, which makes them even more special. I've never tried the Sunset apple, but it seems similar to Cox, which people generally love.

My neighbors have one, but they're considering removing it soon. There are some crabapples around, though. Just wanted to make sure I pick a tree that will actually bear fruit!
