Is Switching from Diamond to Sterling Blocks a Concern for My Retaining Wall?

I'm in Milwaukee, WI, and I've hired a landscaping company to build a retaining wall around my concrete patio. The wall is going to be 70 feet long and between 5.5 to 6 feet high. Originally, the contractor planned to use Belgard Diamond Heritage blocks, but they switched to Sterling System blocks (which have a pin-locking mechanism) because of stock issues with their supplier, and they're starting the project next Monday. They're planning to dig a 12" deep base and use a 6" compacted gravel layer, along with geo-grid every 3 block levels and a drainage system. They also provide a 5-year warranty on the wall. I'm wondering if this change to Sterling blocks affects the structural strength of my wall. Should I push for the Diamond blocks instead, or is Sterling an equally good option? I'm okay with the look of the Sterling blocks, but I prioritize having a durable and strong retaining wall.

You shouldn’t worry too much about the block change. As long as they’re following the correct installation practices, which they seem to be, your wall should hold up just fine. With geo-grid support and a solid drainage system, you're looking at a strong build that should last a long time!

Totally agree with BlockWizard87! It looks like your landscaping company is doing everything by the book, and the Sterling blocks should perform well for your needs. Just make sure they stick with the plan laid out in your contract, and you should be all set!
