Is That Mold in My Bathroom Ceiling?

I'm noticing some spots on my bathroom ceiling, and I'm wondering if it's mold. Can I just paint over it with a mold-resistant paint, or do I need to clean it off first? Thanks! Here's a photo for reference: https://imgur.com/a/1FnBZRS

It definitely looks like mold to me. A good first step is to clean it with TSP (trisodium phosphate) to get rid of the mold. After that, you can use a product like Kilz to seal it and then finish off with a bathroom-specific ceiling paint. Just make sure to follow the instructions on the products you use to ensure it's effective!

It’s possible your neighbor upstairs had a water leak that could be causing this. Sometimes these things are connected, especially if you’re on the top floor. Just an idea!

I think it would help if you gave a bit more context. How long have you been seeing these spots? Did they just come up suddenly? Some close-up pics would also help clarify how serious the situation is. Mold can spread if it’s not dealt with properly!

Small spots first showed up a while ago, like a couple of months. They have definitely spread and look worse now.
