I recently returned my 20v brushless XR trimmer (model DCST922B) after only a month of use because it stopped working completely. I'm wondering if I just got a defective unit, or if there's a design flaw with this model. Considering switching back to a gas-powered trimmer. Has anyone else experienced this?

I feel you! I also got the 20v trimmer and it stopped working in just 10 minutes of use. It seems like a pretty common issue with this model—people have reported problems with the motor and some connection troubles at the shaft joint. One of the biggest issues appears to be overheating from grass clogging the motor vent. It’s honestly a poorly designed unit. If I were you, I’d think twice before sticking with it.
Totally agree! Why would they put such a sensitive motor in an area that constantly gets dirty? It just doesn't make sense.
