Is the FlexVolt Grinder Really Worth the Upgrade?

I'm trying to decide between the DeWalt FlexVolt 56V grinder and the 18V brushless version. The FlexVolt costs about $100 more, but I don't have any FlexVolt batteries yet—I only have 6 normal 5Ah ones and 4 5Ah Power Stack batteries. Does the FlexVolt really offer significant advantages, and is it worth the investment, especially since I'd need to buy at least one if not two batteries? Any advice would be appreciated!

You can't really go wrong with any of DeWalt's grinders, especially if you stick to the 20V line if that's what you have batteries for. The brushed ones work just fine for smaller projects, but they do drain the batteries fast. If you plan to tackle longer jobs, you'll want to invest in more batteries. If you're on a budget, the 20V would be a good choice right now!

The 60V grinder is a powerhouse! It performs better than most large corded grinders around. Just a heads-up, the battery life can run out fast if you're really pushing it. But if you're doing tough jobs, you'll appreciate the raw power. Just keep an eye on your recharge time—15 minutes of hard grinding can drain the battery quick!

The 60V (which is the FlexVolt you're looking at) is amazing! I’ve tried it and it can really handle heavy metal work. My buddy, who has lots of high-end tools, recommended it and now I get why—it's incredibly powerful. If you're doing a lot of demanding grinding, it's worth every penny. If you're just doing lighter work, you might be okay with the 20V, but for serious tasks, the 60V is unbeatable. I still keep my lighter tools for more delicate tasks, though!

Exactly! I have two of the 60V grinders and they truly dominate. I'm even thinking of getting the bigger 7-inch version because they're just that good.

Totally agree with you! The 60V is a beast—you're really not losing anything except the cord. I find it's a game-changer!
