I'm considering the Grizzly G0958, which is an 8" jointer/planer combo priced at $599. I've seen mostly positive reviews, but I'm curious about the performance of combo tools since they often don't excel at both functions. I find myself needing to flatten boards as well as edge jointing, and I've been using some jigs for jointing, but it's not perfect. Can anyone share their thoughts on this model or on combo tools in general?

Honestly, I’d invest in a Dewalt 735 planer now and save up for a jointer later. You can manage without a jointer for quite a while, especially if you’re just starting out.
That makes sense! But how would you join edges tightly for cutting boards or tabletops without a jointer? Would a table saw jig work?
