Is the Hercules Dust Extractor Enough for My Garage Shop?

I'm setting up a small woodworking shop in my garage, and I'm trying to get my dust collection system sorted out. I have a few beginner questions:
1) Can I use the Harbor Freight Hercules dust extractor with my table saw and bandsaw, or do I really need to invest in a full dust collector?
2) What's the difference between the Central Machinery model and the Bauer version aside from the price tag?
3) I've come across cyclone systems—are they essential when running a dust collector? Thanks in advance for your help!

If you go the shop vac route, consider using a cyclone or a Thein baffle setup; those really help reduce clogging. I’ve tried a bunch of systems, and the Thein baffle works best for keeping the dust manageable. For a dedicated collector, I recommend the HF Central Machinery model—it gives you a lot of bang for your buck!

Starting small with a shop vac can work for basic setups. But once you get into larger tools like planers or jointers, you’ll want something more powerful, like a blower-type collector. The key is to eventually hard pipe to a central system; that’s when you’ll realize your initial setup might not cut it. Also, if you’re planning to expand your shop, get ready to rethink your dust extraction strategy down the line!

W00dSh0pN00b: I’m definitely looking for a dust collection system. Since my garage is tight, I was hoping the extractor could be enough to handle one tool at a time instead of dropping a grand on a full system.
