Is the Milwaukee Hatchet Worth It Despite the Oil Leak Issue?

I'm considering getting a Milwaukee Hatchet pruning saw, probably the M18 model, but I've heard a lot about oil leaking from it. For those of you who own a Hatchet, do you still think it's worth buying? Is this oil leak a common problem with all saws that have oil reservoirs or something unique to this model? Also, do you have any tips on how to position it to minimize leaking when it's not in use?

I have the M12 version and it’s been a lifesaver for cutting firewood while camping. Yes, it can leak a bit, especially if left in storage, but that’s common with most chainsaws. I just keep it in a plastic bag when not in use and have never had a major issue. I'd buy it again without a doubt because it’s super convenient!

That's a good question! The oil leak might not be as bad as it sounds—it could just be how chain saws work since they're gravity-fed. Some folks suggest that not overfilling the reservoir or adjusting the angle when storing it can help reduce the mess. It's definitely important to drain the oil after use and store it upright. Just keep in mind that some oil might leak regardless, so it's part of the deal with chain-based saws.

I’ve used my Hatchet a lot, and honestly, the leak hasn’t been a huge problem for me. It works as intended, and I prefer having a well-oiled chain to a dry one! Just make sure to drain some oil and tip it upright when you're done. Overall, I'd still recommend it for its performance.
