I'm curious about the plastic guard on the M12 circular saw. I've only ever used saws with metal guards, so I'm wondering if this change is a potential issue or not. What experiences have you all had with saws that have plastic guards?

The shift to a plastic guard is mainly to reduce weight, and I haven't really seen any complaints about them. Other brands use plastic guards successfully, so it shouldn't be a major concern unless you're super rough with your tools.
I've been using my M18 circular saw with a plastic guard for a while now, and it's been great. At first, I had my doubts about the durability but it seems just fine unless you're really bashing it around. I even thought about swapping it for a metal guard, but it probably wasn't worth the expense.
Honestly, unless you're someone who throws down the saw or treats it poorly, the plastic guard should do just fine. Most miter and table saws use plastic guards and they hold up well. Just make sure to handle it with care!
