Hey everyone! I'm looking to cut some 2-1/4" walnut slabs and I've been considering a Wen track saw for the job. I have a pretty well-equipped shop for handling sheet goods, but I don't own a track saw yet. I don't need it for heavy-duty work, just for this specific project. Do you think the Wen would be suitable for cutting through this thickness of walnut?

If you don’t foresee needing a track saw for future projects, you might consider just using a circular saw and a jig. It could be more efficient since the setup time for the track saw might not be worth it for a one-off job. Alternatively, I’d suggest going for the Wen track saw if you want better precision for your cuts.
I’ve used my Milwaukee track saw for some miter cuts on 1 5/8" walnut, and I found that doing multiple passes really helps for achieving clean cuts. For your walnut slabs, I think the Wen will be fine—just make sure to take a few passes to get through the 2-1/4" thickness. Also, using track clamps can help keep everything stable while you cut!
When it comes to cutting 9/4 walnut, I always recommend making multiple passes, no matter what saw you’re using. The Wen should handle it well as long as you do that. Just take your time, and you’ll be good to go!
