I'm using a 20v impact drill and an impact wrench, but I'm finding it really frustrating that the drill shuts off automatically after 5 minutes if I tape the trigger down. My older 18v DeWalt drill doesn't have this issue, so I'm wondering if there's any way to disable this auto shut-off feature on the newer models. Has anyone found a solution?

I feel you on the frustration! If it’s something you really need to avoid, maybe look into upgrading or looking for features in newer models that don't have this limitation. Sometimes manufacturers tweak settings for user safety.
There’s been a lot of talk about keeping batteries charged, but going too deep into discharge can actually hurt them in the long run. I've read that old myths about battery management lead to unnecessary replacements. It's probably best just to use the drill as designed to keep things running smoothly. You could try calling DeWalt directly; they might offer some guidance.
That auto shut-off could be there to prevent the drill from overheating, especially if it uses lithium-ion batteries. It might be a part of the battery management system. If you’re consistently needing to keep the trigger pulled for that long, consider what you're doing and if a corded drill might be a better fit for the job. Just a thought!

Yeah, I get that! But sometimes it just feels more convenient to use a battery-powered tool, you know?
