Is This a Smart Idea for Cooling My Closet-Bathroom Combo?

I've converted a large closet that connects to my bathroom into a makeshift bedroom, but I'm struggling with cooling because there's no ventilation. I'm thinking about using a small portable AC unit inside the closet and running ducting made of fiberglass to vent the hot air out through the bathroom exhaust. My plan includes having a way to disconnect the duct while showering, possibly using magnets or something similar. I'm aware that portable ACs can be inefficient and require good exhaust, but since my space is only 12'x10', I hope it won't be too bad efficiency-wise. Is this a decent idea or just plain silly?

I don't think your idea is stupid at all! The general concept is solid. Since your closet is a small enclosed space, using a portable AC might actually be more efficient than trying to cool an entire apartment. Just make sure that the bathroom exhaust fan is powerful enough to handle the hot air being pushed out. A quick test with a piece of paper can help you check the suction. Also, ensure your duct fits well with the vent opening so you don’t lose cooling power. You’re on the right track here!

Good point about checking the fan's strength! It's often underestimated. Also, if you decide to seal the closet well, that should help with cooling efficiency too.

Honestly, this sounds like a creative DIY solution! In my experience with portable ACs, you'll want to make sure your bathroom vent is sucking up the hot air effectively. Also, watch out for humidity as those units can fill up quickly with condensation. As long as you keep a close eye on these factors, I think it could really work for your setup. Go for it!
