Is This Commission Request a Scam or Legit?

I'm reaching out for advice from those more experienced in the field. A Facebook profile with no picture and only one friend contacted me about a commission. While we chatted and they shared a phone number, I still feel hesitant. They offered to pay a material deposit through Venmo or PayPal, and claim to be semi-local. Everything seems okay, but that new profile is making me uneasy. Are there any warning signs, or does this seem like a real opportunity?

The lack of a profile picture isn't always a dealbreaker, just like some people don't use one. But a new account does sound a bit suspicious. The deposit offer is a positive sign, so I'd be cautious but not overly worried. Just stay alert!

Exactly! I think it's best to stay cautious. Trust your gut and treat it like any other commission opportunity.

Definitely be careful! A common scam is for someone to send too much money and ask for the extra back. It's a classic red flag. Always think through the payment method, as PayPal can be risky for sellers; it’s super consumer-friendly, after all.

Thanks for the tip! I generally avoid PayPal for that reason, so I might stick with Venmo. Are there specific scams to watch for with it?

If they’re ready to put down a deposit, that usually shows a level of commitment. Maybe they don't typically use Facebook, and that's why they seem new. However, consider if Facebook is your only means of communication for commissions.

Right now, it is. I don’t have a website yet, just doing stuff through Marketplace and referrals.
