Is This Electrical Connection a Major Red Flag for a Home Purchase?

I'm considering making an offer on a house in Chester County, Pennsylvania, but I've noticed an unusual connection from the electrical supply coming in from the street to just before the electric meter at the home. I haven't encountered this type of setup before and I'm unsure if it poses any significant concerns. Should I ensure that a qualified electrician checks it out during the contract period?

What you're seeing is typically a standard service stop with a weatherhead attached to SER cable. It's pretty common, and doesn't usually indicate a problem. Most areas have similar setups.

Thanks for clarifying! I wasn’t sure because I usually see these connections enclosed in protective housing rather than exposed like this.

That looks normal in my experience too. In fact, in the next town over, they have to house the whole line in a PVC pipe, so it varies by location. Just check the local codes to see if this setup is compliant.

Interesting! I’ve noticed that the code here doesn’t seem to allow it, but more rural areas seem to have different, less strict requirements.
