Is This Shower Installation Acceptable or a Cause for Concern?

I'm having some issues with my shower installation. My contractor suggested reusing our large glass panels for the shower and its bench. However, when it came time to install them, the glass didn't fit, and they ended up cutting through the tiles. I'm not thrilled about it, and I want to know if this is still an acceptable solution or if it will lead to leaks or require special maintenance later on. The glass needs to be sealed with silicone to the tiles, so leaks shouldn’t be a huge concern. But I have to say, it doesn’t look great aesthetics-wise. You might see a gap through the glass, which could be off-putting. Plus, the metal trim around the glass doesn’t wrap the corner nicely, which could bug you over time. Since your contractor offered to redo it, I’d suggest having a chat with them about it, but just make sure the remedy doesn’t make things worse. Also, involve the glass installer in the discussion!

That makes sense! The contractor mentioned they’d be cutting u channels to extend the metal trim, so hopefully that will fix the gap issue. Thanks for your thoughts!

The contractor insists the liner and sealant behind the tiles are still intact, so it should be safe. But honestly, it’s puzzling how cutting seals and tiles doesn’t create vulnerabilities. Tiles are caulked for a reason, right? Just throwing it out there!
