Hey everyone! I'm working on laying a paver patio and came across some materials that look different than what I've seen in all those YouTube videos. The landscaper store assured me that this is standard for contractors and they've been using it for 30 years. I'm including a link to a picture of it. What are your thoughts on this? Does this material look like a suitable paver base?

Absolutely, that's exactly the type of material you want for a paver base! It ranges from about 2 inches to really fine powder and should compact really well.
Honestly, I'd usually trust local advice over what I see online. I've used different materials like road base, open graded gravel, and decomposed granite for projects, and they've all worked fine. A good test is to compact a small area, like 2x2 feet, about four inches deep. Saturate it and see how well it compacts. With a higher sand percentage, it should be pretty easy to level out too.
Yes, that will definitely work for your patio. While it might not be the top-of-the-line choice, it's definitely better than sand. I'd say go for it!
