Is Using Dowels for Breadboard Ends on a Tabletop a Good Idea?

I'm planning to create some 10-inch breadboard ends for a tabletop, similar to a project I saw online. My main concern is about how stable the dowels will be for the additional 10 inches. I'm worried that the joint might end up being too weak. How long should the dowels be for this? Also, do the side dowels need to be pinned? I'm cautious about accidentally drilling through the whole dowel. Any advice would be appreciated!

A 10-inch breadboard? You might want to consider adding some breadboards to your breadboards! You can use dowels, but make sure to be super accurate. The guy in the video pinned the dowels at the ends of the breadboards, which wasn't the best approach. Think about your design more carefully, and maybe adjust how you drill those holes.

I thought the smaller pinning dowel was there because he didn’t fully drill through the dowel. Is that not right?
