Is Using Epoxy Grout for My Shower Floor Too Much?

Asked By ShowerGuru123 On

I'm hiring a pro to do my walk-in shower, and I'm buying the tile and grout to save some cash. I've been looking into the different kinds of grout, and epoxy grout keeps popping up as a top choice. However, some folks are saying it might be more than I need. I just want to ensure my shower is easy to clean and maintain. Any thoughts?

I totally understand the dilemma! I went through a similar process when renovating my bathroom. At first, I was all about epoxy grout but then thought it was overkill. I ended up choosing Mapei Ultracolor Plus FA grout instead. It works great and is easier to manage than epoxy, plus it's a step up from traditional grout. Some people had issues with it at first, but I think it was mostly due to mixing problems.

Honestly, I'd say single-component grout could be a better option for easier application. I used it in my own shower, and after 8 years, I’ve had no complaints. Definitely worth considering if you want less hassle!

I've only ever used epoxy grout, and I think it's awesome! It's superior in durability and not hard to apply. Just make sure your installer knows what they're doing because it can be tricky if they're inexperienced. A good tip is to add plenty of dish soap to make it easier to work with. That’s what one of the pros I spoke to mentioned too. They only use epoxy grout, so I figured it must be the top option!

I’d avoid epoxy grout for a shower—it feels like overkill to me. There are other options that will work just as well without being so complicated.

Let’s be real, grout can be a pain to maintain. I even have tile countertops, and it's just a hassle.

Wait, you have tile for your shower?! That sounds like a cleaning nightmare.

That’s a total tangent from what the original post asked, though!
