Hey everyone! I'm planning to set up a DIY solar system in the UK, and I'm dealing with a quirky roof and two garages which will allow for multiple panels in different orientations. I'm considering using a Victron system because it seems like a solid option with multiple MPPT units, especially since I plan on going big eventually—around 18kw worth of panels. Initially, I'm thinking of starting with a Multiplus inverter (maybe 5kva), a Foster 48v 16kwh battery, and just a few kW of panels along with one MPPT to begin with. Do you think Victron is the right way to go? Thanks!

Absolutely, go for it! Victron equipment might be a bit pricier, but their reliability is top-notch. Just keep in mind that they tend to prioritize high amperage over high voltage. A lot of their budget-friendly MPPT models cap at 250v and offer up to 70A input, while most other brands offer higher voltages with lower current specs. Just something to be aware of as you plan your setup!

Yeah, just a heads-up: their naming can be confusing. For instance, MPPT 250/70 means 250v maximum and 70A charging, but it actually provides 35A total for the PV input, and about 30A per MC4 connection. Better double-check the specs before buying!
