Is Washing Hair Daily Bad or Helpful?

Hey everyone! I'm on a journey to take better care of my hair and I'm wondering if it's okay to wash my hair every day with just water. I usually use shampoo only once a week, but I've been told that washing my hair with water daily might not be the best thing for my hair. Is there any truth to this? Plus, how often should I really be washing my hair with and without products like conditioner and shampoo? Just to give you a bit of context, my hair is straight, light, and very fine. Thanks for any tips!

I shampoo every day since I have short hair and I’m super active with sports. I just can’t stand having dirty hair post-workout. My hair definitely needs cleaning regularly, otherwise, it gets really gross!

I get that! I also prefer to wash my hair every day because after a busy day it just feels dirty otherwise.

Keep in mind, though, that daily shampooing can strip natural oils from your scalp, making it more greasy over time.

Honestly, I haven't used shampoo in years, just water! My hair looks and feels great. I think you have to find what works for you, but too much shampoo can be overkill.

It really depends on your hair type and ethnicity! For me, I found that not shampooing every day lets my natural oils keep my hair healthier and less frizzy. If you have finer hair, maybe every 2-3 days is best?

How do you figure out your hair's porosity? I heard it's important for deciding how often to wash.

You could always do the water test: put some hair strands in a glass of water. If they sink, you have high porosity; if they float, low porosity!

I used to wash my hair daily, but now I only do it 2-3 times a week and condition in between. My hair feels so much healthier! I suggest trying to wash less and see how it goes.

It can be tough at first, but your scalp will adjust. Just listen to your hair!

I wash my hair daily since I hit the gym a lot and sweat a ton. However, I just rinse with water and don’t use shampoo every time. My hair doesn’t feel greasy that way!

Just make sure to use a good conditioner to help with moisture if you're rinsing every day.
