Is Weather Forecasting Gettig Worse for Everyone Else?

Lately, I've been noticing that weather forecasts seem less reliable than in previous years. I totally get that predictions can't be spot-on every time, but I've experienced temperature discrepancies of up to 15 degrees! I was even on the brink of relocating my tomatoes since the forecast indicated low temps over 45°F for ten days. However, the following day there was an unexpected frost warning. Rain predictions have also been off lately. I've heard that funding cuts to the National Weather Service (NWS) might be contributing to these issues. Has anyone else experienced similar forecasting errors?

Absolutely, I’ve noticed the same issues! The budget cuts really seem to be impacting the forecasting. In some regions of the U.S., they’ve stopped sending weather balloons up, which leads to a lack of data. With fewer people analyzing this data, it’s concerning, especially with hurricane season approaching.

Soon enough, you'll probably be paying a subscription fee just to get accurate weather updates! It’s kind of ridiculous how everything is heading that way.

I hear you! Just a few weeks ago, the forecast predicted a light dusting of snow, but we ended up with 8 inches instead. It’s becoming harder to rely on these forecasts since there’s less data available. I worry about serious weather predictions too, like tornadoes and hurricanes. As for your tomatoes, I planted mine a week ago with a frost blanket ready just in case. My plants handled 38°F with the blanket just fine!

Good call on the frost blanket! I might have to do the same if the temperatures drop.

Same here, I really need to dig up my garden, but I’m waiting for the rain to settle. It’s messing up my planting plans!
