Is Wood a Good Option for a Vanity Top?

I'm thinking about upgrading my bathroom setup by installing a vessel sink and faucet to replace the usual sink on my vanity. I'd love to use a stained and finished piece of wood underneath the vessel. Any suggestions or advice on this?

Absolutely, you can use wood! Just look for a strong protective coating. Polyurethane or advanced epoxies work great for this kind of project. They’ll keep the wood safe from moisture.

Got it! I need to be careful since I have asthma; anything too knotty isn't an option for me.

You can, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you can seal it with a thick layer of epoxy resin. Otherwise, it could get damaged by moisture pretty quickly.

Yes, you can use wood, but think about the practicality. It’s a wet area, so you'll need to keep it dry and oil it regularly. Plus, vessel sinks can be tricky to keep clean and may take up extra space. Have you considered elevating your vanity with kitchen cabinets? That's a common solution for height issues.

Cleaning behind my faucet already feels like a challenge. Raising the cabinet isn’t an option with my tiled floor, but I appreciate you suggesting kitchen cabinets; I’ll keep that in mind!

Using wood like teak could be a good choice since it has a high oil content and can handle moisture well, which is why it’s often used in boat building.
