IT Contractor Skipped Drywall Repairs After Installing Ethernet—What Should I Do?

I recently hired an IT company to run Cat6 Ethernet cables throughout my two-story house. According to the scope of work provided by the salesman, they were supposed to install access panels for easy future access to the cables. They didn't install these access panels and also left the drywall unrepaired after their work. I've got photos to show the damage. Should I ask them for credit to repair the drywall, or should I request that they fix it themselves? Or am I responsible for it?

You should definitely remind the contractor about the terms in the agreement you signed. If it explicitly states they would install access panels, they are obligated to do that. Ideally, you want them to come back and fix that drywall as well, since it's part of the job they were hired for.

You're kind of in a tough spot here. If it's not clearly stated in writing that they should repair the drywall, you might end up being responsible for it. Many contractors skip drywall repairs—it's just how it goes sometimes. It might be worth negotiating with them to see if they can help out, but don’t expect too much.

Yeah, it looks pretty rough from the pics! If there's contract language about access panels, hold them to it. You could also suggest they use spring-loaded access panels to cover the holes—they're a good solution for easy access in the future and would make the job look more polished.
