I'm considering a birthday present from my dad, who really wants to get me a jointer. I'm wondering if that's the best choice for my next tool, or if I should prioritize a planer instead. Currently, I mostly build basic plywood furniture, but I'm looking to branch out into making hardwood pieces. What are your thoughts?

I totally agree, the planer is definitely the way to go! It will open up more possibilities for your projects, especially if you're looking to make more hardwood furniture. Plus, the DeWalt DW735 is a solid choice if you're considering models. Just make sure you have a decent dust collection system to handle all the chips it produces. It’s really a game changer in the shop!
Sounds like you might be better off with a planer! I've got a jointer that I rarely use, but my planer is getting a workout. A planer can do a lot for flattening and smoothing, especially if you’re working with hardwoods. If you've got a table saw already, you can use it to straighten edges, which means the planer could really make your shop more versatile. Plus, with a simple sled, you can achieve some effective flattening too!
Exactly! A sled can save you a ton of hassle when flattening boards with a planer. It's a great workaround!
Good point about the dust collection! I hadn’t even thought about that, but it’s crucial.
