I recently tackled a project to upcycle some old pallets into a small bookshelf. It took way longer than I expected because I spent a lot of time sanding, but I managed to get it built, and it actually turned out to be quite sturdy! I have to admit that some of the shelves ended up a bit uneven, and I had to re-do a few nails here and there. Nonetheless, it was a great learning experience, and I'm definitely feeling that DIY enthusiasm. I'm hoping to get some tips on working with reclaimed wood and smoothing out rough cuts. When working with pallets, be cautious! They might have been treated with chemicals. Ideally, avoid sanding since that can release those toxins. If you must sand, make sure to wear a good mask and seal the wood properly if it's for indoor use!
I'd love to see some pictures! It's hard to appreciate a project until you can visualize it. Pictures can really help motivate and inspire others too!
Pallets can be tricky but they're such a cost-effective material! I agree, I've never made anything 'perfect' either, but if it works and looks decent, that's a win in my book!
