As a beginner, I learned a tough lesson while working with 2x4s. I purchased two 2x4s, cut them in half, and tried to glue the faces together to create a "4x4". I thought I aligned them perfectly, but when I clamped them down to let the glue set, they shifted a bit. It hit me that I should have cut and glued them first, then shaved off the rounded edges. I'm buying two more 2x4s today to try again. Is cutting, gluing, and then shaving the right order?

Yep, boards can shift when you're clamping them down. I usually add extra clamps across the joint to keep everything straight. Just a tip for next time!
Honestly, why not just buy a 4x4 if that's what you need? Seems like you're making it harder on yourself for no reason, but maybe there's more to it?
It could be a transitional step too! Who knows where this project is heading. Maybe he's experimenting with different sizes.

I get that, but I’m trying to make a headboard. The legs could be 4x4s, but I thought this would be more affordable and fun. Plus, it's good practice with the table saw!
