I have a pergola constructed with 6x6 posts, and I noticed that one of the posts is starting to develop a split along its length. While it might not be a serious issue, I'd feel much better if I could install a bracket around the post for added support. I often use these posts to hang hammocks, and I've seen some brackets that might work, but they don't seem to open wide enough to fit around my post. I'm specifically looking for something with a hinge on the back that could help secure the post and let me hang hammocks safely. If anyone has suggestions for existing products or even DIY solutions, I'd greatly appreciate it because I'm running out of ideas!

To avoid further damage on that split, consider using some 3" deck screws to tighten across the split area. A sleeve isn't necessary for that. Plus, if you want to hang a hammock, I recommend using a threaded eye bolt with washers on both ends for a stronger hold!
Check out this swing and chair hanger bracket. It looks solid and could fit well around your 6x6 post if you make a few extra holes for mounting it horizontally. Here's the link: [Swing & Chair Hanger Bracket](https://riooutdoors.com/product/swing-and-chair-hanger-bracket-6sw/). It might just do the trick!
If you're really worried about the split, a common fix is to sister another piece of wood or use a long metal strap. Replacement might be necessary if you can’t attach securely to the post. Also, I found these adjustable post sleeves on Amazon that could help but may not serve for hanging a hammock: [Adjustable Post Sleeve](https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Adjustable-Post-Sleeve-Long-Lasting/dp/B0C5LM1NJD?th=1).
Those are clever, but I'm really looking for something that can support a hammock too. I'll keep those in mind though, thanks!

That is perfect, thank you!
