Looking for a Quiet Door Lock with Keys

I'm on the hunt for a doorknob that locks quietly and requires a key for security. I can't rely on a latch, so it needs its own locking mechanism. The big issue for me is the loud click I hear when locking my door with a key. I just want something that's as quiet as possible. Any suggestions, including possible modifications to my current doorknob? I'd really appreciate any help!

Retrofitting a locking mechanism isn’t really feasible, so I recommend checking out a locking doorknob that uses a real key. There are also biometric locks available online that fit standard doorknob holes. Just be mindful to keep a backup key in case the battery dies! They do offer some convenience, but if you don’t need the fancy features, a standard doorknob should work just fine.

My current doorknob uses a key, but it makes a loud sound when locking. I just need it to be quieter!

You might find that simply oiling your current doorknob helps reduce the noise when locking. Head over to your local hardware store and look for a doorknob with a key lock instead of a bathroom lock. Go for a regular entry door knob and let them know what you're looking for!

I had my doorknob oiled well by my dad, but it’s still loud. I guess visiting the store for the right one is a solid idea, thanks!

Try gently closing the handle while locking; that can help most locks stay silent. If that doesn’t work, consider using dry lubricant rather than oil to reduce noise build-up. The problem might also be with how the door hangs or how the lock aligns with the frame. Just a thought!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll give that a try and see if it helps.
