Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for a good, straightforward alcove shower kit and I'm limited to options from Home Depot and Lowe's. My shower dimensions are 60x32. One thing I'm unsure about is whether I can get walls that are taller than my existing shower head and just cut a hole for it, or do I need to buy a kit that fits under that height? I'm considering going for a 'direct-to-stud' installation, but I initially thought integrated shelves would be great, but they might take up too much space. I'm leaning towards plain walls, maybe just a soap dish and one shelf on an end wall. My budget is under $1200, but I can be a bit flexible. I also plan to add grab bars later on. Lastly, I want a low threshold but I have some concerns about water escaping with a shower curtain. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! My house is pretty old (built in 1978, snagged for $75K back in '92), so I'd love to upgrade my shower without breaking the bank!

I’d recommend checking out the Sterling shower kits; they have some good options! Just make sure to look for the ones that don’t have protruding shelves if space is tight. You can always add removable shelves later if needed!
For the height issue, it's generally okay to have taller walls and modify them for the shower head. Just ensure you're comfortable with some DIY to cut the hole neatly! As for the water escaping dilemma with the curtain, a weighted curtain or magnetic strip can help keep it in place. Good luck with your renovation!
Great advice! A weighted curtain sounds like a good solution to keep the water in.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check out the Sterling kits and see which ones fit my needs.
