Looking for a Solar-Only EV Charger Without Batteries

Hey everyone! I'm setting up a carport with solar panels that I want to completely separate from my house's solar/battery system. My goal is to find a solar-only EV charger that will only charge if there's enough solar power available. I don't want it to run at night or rely on any batteries. Are there any options out there that fit this description?

What you’re looking for sounds like it would need an off-grid inverter that operates without batteries, plus an EV charger that can handle variable current. It's an interesting concept, but I’m not sure how well it would perform. You might want to consider a small stationary battery to help manage the charging for times when solar output dips. That way, you're not reliant purely on solar without any backup.

Absolutely, it could work in theory, but remember the charger will require a minimum charge current of 6A. Having a battery of the right size connected would ensure you have the necessary power levels, especially if you plan on charging at 2.5 kW. It might not be super cheap, but you could potentially do it for under $1,000.

It seems there isn't a charger that meets all your criteria right now. You’ll probably need a combination of an EV charger and an inverter setup, but such a system might not be practical just yet. It's a bummer!
