I'm seeking help in finding someone to build a box for my beloved cat's ashes, who passed away unexpectedly. The dimensions I have in mind are about 8 x 5 x 4 inches. I don't need anything too extravagant, but I'm unsure how much a project like this should cost. I'm also feeling a bit overwhelmed with losing him, and seeing his ashes in a cardboard box doesn't feel right. He was my first kitten in 20 years, and money is tight, so I want to find something that fits my budget. How do I go about finding a woodworker to make this for me?

Just a thought, but is the box more for display or is it meant to be buried? Knowing that can help when asking craftsmen for quotes. I'm in the same boat with my cat, and I think just a simple design with maybe 'Mr. 2020-2025' engraved would suffice, right?
Hey, I totally get how you feel. I ended up buying a nice ashes box from Amazon for around £18 (about $25). It wasn't crazy expensive and looked pretty nice. Just throwing that out there if you're okay with buying instead of custom.
Since you're in a woodworking forum, why not just post your request here? There might be someone willing to help you out or at least give you a rough estimate. Also, costs do vary a lot based on location, so if you mention you're in Missouri, you might get some local feedback!

It's for display. I'm trying to keep it simple but meaningful. Thanks for the input!
