Hi everyone! I'm trying to figure out how to close out my storage unit since it's become pretty expensive. I opened it a few years ago at $84 a month, but now I'm paying $236! My current home is quite small, and the 'basement' area I have is more like a cellar with stone walls and a dusty concrete floor. It gets really humid down there, so I have to use a dehumidifier to keep things dry, plus there are oil tanks, a boiler, and a mouse issue. I'm looking for ways to best store items I have like clothes that are too small, bags, papers, bed sheets, boxes of random things, and holiday decor. I'm curious about storage bags, types of containers that work well for this kind of environment, or if any cheap container would do. I want to avoid spending $236 every month, though my wife has suggested looking for a cheaper unit. What do you all think?

When sorting through your stuff, it's worth having a serious talk about what you really need. After moving multiple times, I realized I had boxes of items I never touched. If you haven't used something in a while, consider donating it. It helps clear out space and will save you on storage costs!
Agreed! Think of it as freeing yourself from excess weight, both physically and financially.
That $236 a month can really add up! Consider if you really need to store everything. Maybe you could throw out or donate what you don't use anymore. For the basement stuff, I’d suggest vacuum-sealable space bags inside sturdy containers to protect against bugs and moisture.
If your basement's damp, storing items there could lead to mold and pests. Look into under-bed storage, storage cubes, or even a small outdoor shed if you have space. Declutter your area first; it's hard to get rid of stuff, but you might find you don't miss much at all!
Try using solid plastic storage boxes with good sealing lids to protect your items. For clothes and bedding, vacuum bags work great to save space and keep everything fresh! They really help reduce humidity damage too.
Just toss everything if you haven’t touched it in ages! You might be surprised how much you can let go of without feeling any regret. Focus on what you truly need and think about getting rid of the rest quickly to avoid second-guessing yourself.

Absolutely! If it’s been in storage for years, it's probably time to let go of it. Keep what matters but donate the rest!
