I'm on the hunt for a plant that spreads rapidly and chokes out other nearby plants but won't survive the winter. My ideal species must fit the following criteria: spreads quickly, inhibits other plants, has a hazardous touch, and 100% dies in winter. I'm located in zone 5b, so any recommendations fitting these specs would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to check out morning glory! They're renowned for being incredibly invasive, but they die off in winter, which seems to fit your needs perfectly. Just be careful—they can really take over a space if you're not monitoring them closely!
For something that won’t stick around forever, you might consider sweet woodruff or purslane. They spread out nicely, but they’re not super aggressive like bindweed or knotweed. Just watch out for the bindweed; once it's there, it's like the horror movie villain that never dies! It could be the perfect plant for your experiment if you don't mind some chaos!

If you’re okay with something that’s pretty notorious, bindweed and Japanese knotweed could be your go-tos. They spread like crazy and will choke out other plants for sure! Just a heads up though, once they’re in, they can be a nightmare to get rid of. But careful, they might be labeled as invasive in many places!
