Looking for Alternatives to Epoxy Resin for Wood Projects

Asked By CraftyNinja42 On

I'm trying to find alternatives to epoxy resin for my woodworking projects, particularly for table tops. I find that traditional resin can be quite expensive, messy, and has a strong smell, even though a successful pour feels great. I've heard of techniques like using latex and have experimented with silicone, but none have given me the same results as resin. Are there any products or methods out there that can produce similar results without the downsides?

Honestly, I get where you're coming from. Resin can be a hassle sometimes! I've been using it for years, and while you do get used to the smell and the process, it's definitely not for everyone. Just a tip: a good respirator can really help with the fumes!

You might want to check out Ecopoxy! It's a non-toxic alternative that's made from soybeans, so it’s less harsh compared to conventional epoxy. I’ve found it works just as well and the best part is you don’t have to mess with as much safety gear or deal with that strong odor. Just be sure to read the safety data for the hardener before diving in, though!

True, it's less toxic, but I wouldn't call it completely non-toxic. Just always good to keep safety in mind!

Definitely a cool option! Just make sure to do a bit of research on different brands, as some might work better for your specific needs.
