I'm on the hunt for a budget spokeshave, mainly for stripping down material rather than doing any precision work. Is a spokeshave still the right choice for this? I'm leaning towards a straight blade, and while I don't have a strict budget, around $50 would be ideal, although I'm open to spending a bit more if necessary. My focus is on quickly removing material, as I'll handle the finer details with sanding later.

Check out the Stanley spokeshave! You can grab one for about $20 at Home Depot, and it's pretty reliable for the price. I've been using it, and it gets the job done well for shaping wood without going into super fine details. Honestly, you might even want to pick up two, so you have a backup when one gets dull!

Cool, so I should stick with a flat blade, right? I'm mostly rounding off wood for legs and handles.
