Hey everyone! I'm trying to replace some damaged windows in my old house (built in the 30s) but I'm running into issues finding a place that sells custom window sizes without requiring installation. The windows were replaced about 25 years ago with aluminum, but a few just haven't held up and need replacing. The problem is, my openings don't fit the standard sizes, and every time I call somewhere, they insist on doing the installation as well. Even Home Depot makes it difficult to order custom sizes without installation. Why can't I just order these windows online and have them delivered? What should I do? Any suggestions? Thanks!

You might want to consider buying directly from a supplier. I work with Pella around Chicago, and while we mostly sell to contractors, we will sometimes help homeowners doing their own installs. Just make sure you have your measurements ready! Additionally, checking out a local lumber yard could be a good move, as they often work with various manufacturers and can help you find what you need.
I thought Home Depot did custom sizes too! I’ve ordered windows from there a few times, but I usually just go for the Millard brand. They keep the prices pretty competitive with other vendors and come with the same warranties. When I place my orders, I send them a detailed spreadsheet with exactly how I want the windows measured. If you can provide good measurements, it might work, even if the system seems geared towards installation!
